Google reacts to the needs of internet surfers who predominantly use mobile to find what they are looking for on the web.
Starting April 21, Google will be expanding their use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in the Google search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices. You can read more about this on the Google Webmaster Central Blog
In one way I like what they are doing, as it is quite frustrating when viewing a website on my smartphone or tablet and find it difficult to read because it required extensive re-sizing and scrolling, because the website didn’t have a responsive web design. In most cases like this, I bounce away from the website, and search for a more mobile friendly version.
